Ric licked at the trickle of blood that escaped before Damon's skin knit back together, breathing harsh and heart pounding.

There could be little doubt that Damon had enjoyed himself, feeling the release against him and echo of it inside his own satisfaction, but he was still... shocked at himself. He had never in his life bitten someone hard enough to break skin. At least not someone he liked, or in an intimate situation.

"Sorry," he managed, breathlessly. "Are you all right?"

Ric sat on the edge of the bed, hands clasped between his knees and looked up at Damon with a raised eyebrow. "That's it? Don't you need to pack, or tell people you're going or... something?"

"I don't really have much here," Damon said with a shrug. "What I do is pretty much already in my bag."

He didn't say anything about telling people or not.

Ric debated asking, then decided not to. "All right. I obviously don't have much I need to worry about." There was a brief pause before he lifted his eyebrows a bit further. "Is there anything that needs done today?"

Damon shook his head. "Not really. I'll make a few phone calls, make sure we have all the various things finalized for you. Otherwise..." He shrugged. "I think we're good."

"In that case, why don't you make those calls while I try to dig up something for breakfast, and then we can go back to sleep for a few hours?"

Damon nodded, greatly liking the idea of curling up somewhere dark to go back to sleep. In the meantime, the weather got abruptly stormy outside.

"I'll be back. Phone's in my room.

Ric glanced toward the window, this time back to Damon with an uplifted eyebrow, but just said, "Sure. I'm going to open a window." Not the shades, just enough to get some air into the room. If it was going to stop, Ric was going to enjoy it.

Damon gave him a little smile, then disappeared up the stairs, finding his phone and making a few calls. He came back down, still holding it, and looking at it like he was thinking.

Ric looked up, head tilted just a little. "What's wrong?"

Damon glanced up and shrugged. "Nothing. Just....wondering if maybe I should call Stefan, too."

That it was this much of a debate probably said a lot.

"Are you interested in my opinion?" Realizing, of course, that he didn't even know this Stefan, much less the status of things between him and Damon.

"Do you feel some urge to give it?" Not angry or dismissive, just a little wry.

"Call him, but do it once we're on the road or settled down for the nig- day."

That'd be a yes.

Damon considered the idea, and nodded. "I can do that."

"Good." He held his hands out. "Then come to bed."

Ric really should eat, but nothing in the house was all that appealing, and curling up in the dark and at least napping for a while was.

That this had started around Damon leaving his bed in the middle of the night and he was now effectively requesting Damon get back in it? Flew right over his head.

Damon didn't miss the irony, but he also didn't resist, moving to take Alaric's hand. He was tired and emotionally wound, both, and curling up in the dark sounds like heaven.

Especially if he didn't have to do it alone.

"Bed sounds good."

Ric pushed himself back to his feet, and started for the stairs. "Your room or mine?" One had memories, the other... left a very valid escape route open for Damon.

Damon considered a little, and shrugged after a moment. "Yours. The bed's more comfortable."

Why he hadn't claimed it as his own was a mystery, honestly. Probably the other Alaric's scent all through it. Not that it bothered him, but it was odd, a reminder he wasn't sleeping in his own bed.

No one had ever slept in the guest room except him, at least since Alaric moved in.

But that bed had different scents on it now, and he was far more fond of those.

That got a sideways look from Ric, but he just kept hold of Damon's hand like he was afraid if he let go that Damon was going to freak out and run, and led him upstairs to the bedroom. There he finally let go, but only so they could get through the door and Ric could - open another window, before crawling into the bed. Still a little questioning, but really- more relieved than he could say that Damon was going to lie down with him.

His relief if Damon was there when he woke up, was likely to be profound.

Still not sure why it bothered him as much as it had, but it had.

The storm Damon had set in motion was still raging outside, and the open window brought in the fresh scent of rain. He hadn't bothered with a shirt, so he just moved to stretch out on the bed: close to Alaric, but not quite touching, yet.

Curling up for naps with someone was new for him, and he wasn't sure what to do now.

Ric remembered last night, and was torn between the belief that Damon didn't know how, and the idea that Damon just wasn't into touch. Or he would have been, without the 'scene' in the kitchen, and the follow-up in the shower. That was enough to give him a clue, and for him to roll over into Damon. "Do you actually sleep on your back?"

Damon took the cue and shifted to settle more against Alaric. He smiled a little, one shoulder lifting in a shrug. "Most of the time, yes..."

"Good."

That was his cue to throw an arm over Damon's waist, and hook one of his ankles over one of Damon's. He tucked his fingers under Damon's back, and pressed his nose into the hair at Damon's temple. "Wake me up if you get up, please?"

Damon slid a hand up along Ric's arm, fingertips lightly stroking, until he curled around his bicep and held it there. He closed his eyes, feeling Ric's breath against his cheek and nodded.

"I will."

Ric relaxed rather a lot when Damon gave his word and took hold of his arm. "Thank you," he murmured, and, with the rain scented, cool, air coming through the window very quickly drifted back to sleep.
