If Ric hadn't gotten the impression (strongly), that Elijah was enjoying himself, lying back and enjoying, rather than doing something wouldn't have just been hard. It would have been impossible. As it stood, once he caught himself and Elijah gave him some kind of rhythm he stopped moving.

Not moving meant that he pressed his hips back into the bed to fight the urge to roll them up, and after quickly opening his eyes to glance down at Elijah, he closed them again. Controlling input of stimulation to something he could control, though his breathing was still heavy and ragged. The next groan, as Elijah hit everything right, was strangled nearly to the point of being a whimper.

The hand in Elijah's hair though? Not going anywhere. He did make an effort, along with going still, to loosen his grip to something a little more gentle. And gradually started to relax, just a little, into it.
