Damon was better at reading people, Ric in particular, than it seemed like he always gave himself credit for. Ric was rattled, and while needing to be reassured that he was wanted was usually more Damon's... thing than his, tonight, he did.
He also just plain needed to feel Damon, to curl his hands around Damon's hips and pull him solidly in against him, feel the press of Damon's body against his and the slide of his tongue against Damon's. He needed... more than just to be reassured that he was wanted. This was all the physical affection they hadn't been expressing on this trip, and the need to, he didn't know, reaffirm his claim on Damon? Connection to him? Something a little hotter, and a little more demanding.
He stayed reasonably soft with the kiss, though, affection first and foremost, holding Damon against him as he let heat build and he kissed him, slick and hot, but also sweet. Just enjoying the kiss as a kiss, and reaccquainting himself with the way Damon tasted, felt, moved with and against him.
