He'd hesitated, but he'd actually, eventually, bucked up and called Elijah to see if there was any news about the cave. He wasn't sure why, except that it seemed like such a nice, relatively non-threatening distraction.
Better than alcohol and vampire slaying, anyway.
Then he'd invited Elijah over to his place for a drink and to update him, before maybe (hopefully) going out and getting Elijah in there to look around. He understood that even less. Except... Elijah's company had been really, really easy. Kind of weird! But easy.
He missed easy.
Not that kind of easy. Just... close to comfortable, and pleasant.
He met Elijah with the door, handed him a glass of bourbon and stepped back to let him in.
"Any luck?" he asked, as he gestured Elijah toward the living room.

He relaxed back into Ric's embrace, his fingers coming up to stroke softly over his arm, just a light, easy touch while he came back down.

Date: 2013-06-17 08:36 pm (UTC)Of course, it very well might not continue, but. If it did...so, he didn't stop touching, just smiled a little back, and enjoyed the affection.
"Not a stereotype," Elijah said quietly. "I think you're probably quite right. And it's something I forget fairly often."

Date: 2013-06-17 09:03 pm (UTC)He brushed his thumb across Elijah's cheekbone, definitely affectionate and, fuck, he didn't know if it was going to happen again, but... He hoped so. This was the most relaxed, clear, and focused he'd been in too long. Elijah had given back at least as much as he'd gotten, probably more. That alone formed a connection, for Ric. Not quite gratitude, or anything that simple or insulting, just - affection and maybe the start of understanding.
"How long did you forget, this time?"

Date: 2013-06-18 07:05 pm (UTC)Elijah kept touching, would probably keep it up as long as Ric did, reluctant to pull away from the warmth and connection underneath his skin. The question tugged a wry smile to his lips.
"A while."
Embarrassing to admit just how long.

Date: 2013-06-18 11:11 pm (UTC)"Probably," Elijah said, with a wry smile. "It hasn't really been a priority in a while." He'd had a family to avenge, he thought, and now, one to try and fix. Sex...wasn't something that had been really even much on his radar. He'd been angry--he hadn't hunted in the more pleasant, but the more vicious ways.

Date: 2013-06-19 02:01 am (UTC)Elijah smirked, just a bit. "Well, now you've gone and reminded me of the benefits..."
A question in there, maybe, implicit, about a one time thing or something that might be repeated, with his own...indication of willingness to do it again, sometime. But also a bit teasing.

Date: 2013-06-19 02:08 am (UTC)"Now that you've been reminded, I hope it doesn't take you a 'while' to do it again." Unsteady, heart racing a little, but not at all unhappy.

Date: 2013-06-19 03:09 am (UTC)"I suppose it would," he said, nuzzling at Ric's jaw. "Though I can't say that I make it much of a habit to pursue people who don't want to be pursued..."
Those who needed wooing, but were receptive? Yes. People who didn't have any interest at all? Why bother

Date: 2013-06-20 03:52 am (UTC)"That's a good thing, too," Elijah said softly, still nuzzling, just enjoying the scent of him, and then, and because it was the closest skin. Did he want to bite, to taste? Of course. But he had more control than that. "Far more pleasant things to do with your mouth than snarl...."
He could hear the emotion in Ric's voice, and his fingers ghosted lightly over his skin, soothing, but not judging either. He wasn't going to be put off by tears--Ric had let him have his in the cave.

Date: 2013-06-20 04:16 am (UTC)He laughed at Elijah's remark, and that little snort of laughter turned into a sob. Elijah had been quiet and contained even in crying, but Ric? No. Not once the damn burst. It wasn't anything gradual once he started feeling loss and grief, and it wasn't contained, controlled, or anything but sloppy, loud, dramatic and close to violent. Not him being violent, just the release of emotion.
He didn't cry, he fucked bawled, and sobbed, and actually shook. There was a lot of pent up emotion there, waiting to drive him crazy, that all came out at once.

Date: 2013-06-20 05:38 pm (UTC)Elijah wasn't surprised when the storm broke. It probably had been a long time coming. God knew his had been, and he hadn't even fully let go.
He shifted to wrap his arms more firmly around Ric, holding him tight, while his hand kept drifting slowly over his hair, down his spine, back up--just soft, soothing motions that did nothing to try and stop the tears.
